Taking you through the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park, Holywell Recreation Area’s s five walking trails have amazing biodiversity and just enough difficulty to make them fun.
The Shelter Trail features bromeliads and vines and a mystical view of Portland parish.
The Wag Water Trail follows a steep one way path to a fast flowing stream where crisp, cool waters tumble over rocks.
The Waterfall Trail winds down a mountain slope through a valley of ferns and ends in a 4.5 meter cascading stream with a pool to dip your feet.
The Oatley Mountain Trail takes you to the highest points through stunted Elfin forest, and reveals stunning views of St. Andrew and Portland from three look out points. It winds down through primary forest, rich in ferns, mosses and over 50 species of trees and shrubs.
The Blue Mahoe Trail is named for and lined with Jamaica’s National Tree. It offers great opportunities to see Jamaica’s National Bird the endemic streamertail humming bird.
Guests should bring water, a light jacket, and footwear and clothing appropriate for active, outdoor activity
Guided trail hikes can be arranged on days and at times desired.
Duration is about 1.5 hours.
Reservations in advance, 72 hours minimum notice preferred. Prepayment of reservations is required.
