Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya at 13,747 square kilometres. Situated in a semi-arid area previously known as the Taru Desert it opened in April 1948, some of the major attractions include : - Mudanda Rock (The Mudanda Rock is a 1.6 km inselberg of stratified rock that acts as a water catchment that supplies a natural dam below. It offers an excellent vantage point for the hundreds of elephants and other wildlife that come to drink during the dry season.) Yatta Plateau (The Yatta Plateau, the world's longest lava flow, runs along the western boundary of the park above the Athi River. Its 290 km length was formed by lava from Ol Doinyo Sabuk Mountain.) Lugard Falls (Lugard Falls, named after Frederick Lugard, is actually a series of white water rapids on the Galana River). Aruba Dam (Aruba Dam was built in 1952 across the Voi River. The reservoir created by the dam attracts many animals and water birds).
Tsavo East National Park is one of the world's largest game reserves, providing undeveloped wilderness homes to vast numbers of animals. Famous are the Tsavo lions and also over 500 bird species have been recorded in the area
After breakfast, you will depart for Tsavo West National Park; you will have a gamedrive enroute once you enter the park. You will arrive in time for lunch. You will then depart for an evening gamedrive till dusk and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Ngulia Safari Lodge or similar – Full Board.
Tsavo West National Park is located at the heart of the evidence of the volcanic activity of Kilimanjaro millions of years ago. The park has various habitats and a railway line that divides it from the adjoining Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo West is a more popular destination on account of its magnificent scenery, Mzima Springs, rich and varied wildlife, good road system, rhino reserve, rock climbing potential and guided walks along the Tsavo River. Mzima Springs are a series of four natural springs in Tsavo National Park they are located in the west of the Park, The source of the springs is a natural reservoir under the Chyulu Hills to the north, rain water percolates through the rock, and may spend 25 years underground before emerging 50 kilometers away at Mzima. Mzima is one of Tsavo's most popular wildlife attractions owing to its resident populations of hippos and Nile crocodiles, Mzima’s isolation make both species dependent on its waters: other sources are too distant for them to reach by overland travel. The hippos also sustain an entire food chain. The springs were made famous by wildlife film-makers Alan and Joan Root's 1969 nature documentary Mzima: Portrait of a spring, which featured underwater footage of the hippos and crocodiles.
Breakfast at the lodge, morning and afternoon game drives at the park with all meals at the lodge.
Overnight at Ngulia Safari Lodge or similar – Full Board.
After breakfast you will proceed to the most magnificent park Southwest of Kenya – the Amboseli National Park, you will pass through the shetani lava flow, ‘Shetani’ means ‘devil’ in Kiswahili: the flows were formed only a few hundred years ago and local peoples believed that it was the devil himself emerging from the earth. This vast expanse of folded black lava spreads for 50 sq km across the savannah near the Chyulu Hills, looking strangely as if Vesuvius dropped its comfort blanket here.
You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch early afternoon is at leisure followed later by an evening game drive till dusk. Dinner and overnight is at Kibo Safari Camp or similar – Full Board.
Being at the border of Kenya and Tanzania; Amboseli National Park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet Maasai and visit a Maasai village. The park also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Amboseli offers some of the best opportunities to see African animals because its vegetation is sparse due to the long dry months. Amboseli National Park is home to wild animals, which include the African elephant, Cape buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest among other African animals. There is also a host of Kenyan birds, both large and small, to see if you keep your eyes open and stop at every sighting.
This day will be spent in the park with options of both doing early morning and evening game drives or half day game drive or full day game drive with packed lunch. You can also participate in optional activities like the Maasai Village Visit (AT AN EXTRA COST).
