The Experience begins at Penlyne Castle and follows a 12.5 km (7.8 mile) trail to the summit. This roundtrip hike takes approximately 7 hours and takes hikers through Jamaica’s pristine primary forest. The route is ideal for observing native plants and over 200 bird species; including all Jamaican endemic birds. There are no large or poisonous animals in the national park.
At 2256 meters (7401 ft.) above sea level, Jamaica’s Blue Mountain Peak is the highest point on the island and offers spectacular views of the hilly interior and coastline. The summit is found within the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
OVERNIGHT STAYS
Mid-way on the peak trail is Portland Gap rest-stop and lodging. We overnight at The Cabins at Portland Gap. There are two cabin buildings offering bunk-bed or floor space sleeping options (Extra floor mattresses are available at an additional cost).
